Fifth Harmony Talks Fitness, Dance, Workout Music

Since recently releasing their third album, Fifth Harmony seems to be everywhere. New York Fashion Week is no exception.

While in the city, the girl group swung by New York City’s Gotham Gym to hit a quick boxing workout and chat exclusively with Reebok about their workout routines. 

“We do our best. It’s hard!,” says group member Dinah Jane Hansen when asked how the women stay fit amid their crazy lifestyles.

“We’re constantly on the road and we all love to eat, so we try to find balance,” Hansen continues.

“We never like to deprive ourselves, but we do try to eat clean as much as possible and sneak in workouts wherever we can so we feel energized and don’t feel bad when we eat that extra handful of Flamin’ Hot Chips!”

Sneaking workouts into their now-rare moments of free time is exactly what the women are doing today, as Gotham owner and celebrity trainer Rob Piela leads them through a series of punches and cardio-based circuits.

“I think we all try to work out as often as we can to do what is right for our individual bodies,” says group member Ally Brooke Hernandez.

“Staying healthy is a big priority for us – our lives are so fast-paced and being strong women, both mentally and physically, lets us live the lifestyle we want to live and be our best selves for each other and our fans.”

It’s no surprise Hansen & Hernandez are the two eager to answer. When asked which member of Fifth Harmony works out most often, both their names come back up.

“Probably Ally, then Dinah,” says Lauren Jauregui. “Definitely not me.”

One aspect of exercise that all four members of Fifth Harmony have in common, though, is dance. The women attest their choreography is a workout in itself.

“One of the best workouts for us is performing on stage, and our choreography is a big element of that,” reveals Dinah Jane Hansen.

“We always come off the stage with so much adrenaline – it’s literally an amplified gym workout session!”

And the members of Fifth Harmony are certainly not the only ones who experience this adrenaline while listening to their music. Many of their songs have become frequents in the most popular workout classes and workout playlists across the globe. 

“A lot of our music is high energy with awesome beats, so hopefully that helps get people pumped throughout their workouts!,” says Normani Kordei.

“One of the most powerful things about music is how uniquely everyone can experience it individually, and it’s still surreal to know that our music is what some people turn to when they’re knocking out an amazing work out – it’s almost like we’re there with them!”
