How Model-Fighter Mia Kang Stays Fit During Sports Season
Cheering on your favorite teams this weekend doesn't have to mean hours of inactivity in front of the television.
While watching fall sporting events is traditionally associated with a couch, a bowl of popcorn and a few too many beers, Muay Thai fighter and model Mia Kang, doesn't let sporting events keep her from a workout.
Reebok caught up exclusively with Kang when she recently stopped by New York City’s Gotham Gym to coach a boxing workout.
Her advice to sports fans this time of year: Start your day with a workout.
“Most sporting events do not air until the afternoon at the earliest,” says Kang.
“If you wake up in the morning and get after it, rather than delaying your day, your workout will be behind you and you’ll just feel better."
“It’s not about feeling guilty that you didn’t work out, it’s about your body and mind feeling great because you did.”
It’s not about feeling guilty that you didn’t work out, it’s about your body and mind feeling great because you did.
Kang is realistic, though, acknowledging that there will always be days when a morning workout is not in the cards.
As a model who travels frequently, she is no stranger to crazy schedules and early morning call times. On those days, Kang reverts to quick workout hacks she can do from her house or a hotel room.
“There are always commercial breaks during sporting events. Watch the game or match when it’s on, and then look at the commercials as your time to get up and move.”
“Whether that’s doing dips from your couch or busting out a set of pushups or crunches each commercial break, quick workouts can still go a long way.
“Believe me, it’s effective,” she adds.
While crushing crunches rather than beers during the game might seem unusual, Kang is comfortable defying the norm. She’s done it before.
When Kang made it clear that she wanted to simultaneously pursue fighting and modeling, many viewed that as an odd combination.
“People are quick to pigeonhole you into one category but I am striving to prove that I can be successful in both at the same time,” says Kang.
“I want to fight and I want to model. I am not going to apologize for having multiple passions and multiple goals.”
